- Course Info: The PHEAR is a 60 hour adventure race across some of the wildest terrain in the eastern US and includes mountain biking on everything from paved roads to singletrack, paddling one-person duckies down a class II-III whitewater river, trekking across the unique Dolly Sods wilderness area, traveling underground through the mysterious Sinks of Gandy and traversing the exciting Nelson Rocks Via Ferrata.

West Virginia: ACE's Big Canyon ORT - A Nissan Xterra Points Series Race

- Course Info: The race starts upstream of the historic Town of Thurmond in the languid waters of the mighty New River. Once the starting gun is fired, you will wade into the river and travel with the current for 1.5 miles, navigating a small ripple. Leap from the water at the site of the once famous Dun Glen Hotel, don your trail shoes and begin a run that will climb 1,000 vertical feet to ACE Adventure Center. The 7 to 8 mile run is over single-track trails and forest service roads. Now that you're warmed up, hop on your mountain bike for a 10-mile ride over single-track trails that will take you to the brink of the Gorge where you see the swim/run transition 1,000 below! If you are ready for some good ol fashioned off-road racing, then come on down to Southern West Virginia for the ACE Big Canyon ORT!

- From I-81 Northbound, take I-77 North at Wytheville until your reach Beckley, West Virginia.
- From I-81 Southbound, take I-64 to Beckley, West Virginia, where I-64 and I-77 merge.
- From I-64,again, follow to Beckley, West Virginia.
- Once in Beckley, West Virginia - take Highway 19 North at exit 48
- Directions To Race: From The West, Midwest and Great Lakes Regions
- Interstates I-64, I-77 and I-79 converge in Charleston, West Virginia
- From Charleston, head south on I-77 / I-64. Take the Mossy Road exit, Rt. 612, and follow to Oak Hill/ West Virginia State Highway 19
- If you are following I-79 South, you can join Highway 19 near Sutton, West Virginia
- Once you reach Highway 19, take the Oak Hill "MAIN STREET" exit
- Off Northbound 19, turn right at the top of the exit ramp
- Off Southbound 19, turn left at the top of the exit ramp
- Across from a busy BP convenience store is MINDEN ROAD
- Turn down Minden Road and follow through the small community of Minden until you see the signs for ACE.

- Course Info: 400 m swim, 25 k bike, 5 k run
- The swim is in the indoor pool at Wheeling Jesuit University.
- The bike course will exit Wheeling Jesuit University onto Currie Drive, turn left onto Washington Ave., right onto Rt. 40 (National Road), travel east approximately 2 miles to Lumber Ave. and continue to the Shilling Bridge. Then turn left into the Elm Grove Crossing Mall and continue through the parking lot to Krause Drive. Turn right onto Krause Drive and then left onto Rt. 40 East. Follow Rt. 40 and make a right onto Middle Creek Road for about 3 miles to the turnaround at Union Hill Road. The same route if followed back to the campus.
- The Run is 3 laps on the cross country trail on the campus and a partial lap on the track to the front of the bleachers where the finish line is located.
- More: All participants must sign the USAT waiver at the time of check-in. To read the waiver prior to race day, visit www.usatriathlon.org.
- All athletes must present a photo ID at the time of check-in. NO ID, NO RACE, NO EXCEPTIONS!
- Directions To Race: Wheeling Jesuit University is located off Interstate 70 at Exit 2B (Washington Ave.) From the exit follow the signs to the main entrance of Wheeling Jesuit University on your left.
