THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR 2007
Saint Leo University Triathlon Cancelled (3-28-07) Saint Leo, FL – The stop on the Florida Collegiate Race Series featuring ITU U23, College Triathlon, and Open Divisions has been cancelled this weekend. Freshwater bacteria levels for the beach head at Lake Jovita were extremely high according to samples taken by the Florida Department of Health. Two samples were taken. The first was the routine sample paid for by the city of San Antonio. After an initial high reading a second test was mandated but yielded the same results. With the swim leg a risk to participants event director Cyle Sage had no choice but to cancel the race. “I wish we could make it a duathlon (run-bike-run), but unfortunately this race was created for and designated as a regional cup points race for the U23 division,” said Sage. The race was to serve as a tune up race for the US Collegiate National Triathlon Nationals scheduled for April 14 at the University of Alabama. Saint Leo University is located in Pasco County near Dade City and the popular cycling training town of San Antonio. Known for its rolling hills San Antonio is a weekend destination for road cyclists that train on roads less traveled by regular motor traffic. For more information contact Cyle Sage at Cyle.Sage@saintleo.edu or (352)588-8641. Competitors may also contact Eric Keaton with Pasco County tourism at (727) 847-8129 or ekeaton@pascocountyfl.net.
