Saturday, April 07, 2007 ::: San Diego, California:
UC San Diego - Tritonman
- Swim 500 yards, Bike 12 miles, Run 3.1 miles
- Location: Fiesta Island
- Other: Fund Raising Race to help UCSD Collegiate Tri Team to go to Nationals.
- Swim-The water will be in the 60's so wear a wetsuit. If you don't have one, you may rent one from www.wetsuitrentals.com. The swim will be started in waves and is 500 yards uphill both ways. You will get wet in the swim.
- Bike-All USAT rules will apply.
The route is 12 miles and will consist of 3 counter clockwise 'big' laps along the outermost perimeter of Fiesta Island. Riders entering the course from the transition area must stay to the right as riders from previous waves may be passing by on the left. There is one hazardous corner on the course and it should be practiced beforehand if possible. The course is very flat but tends to have a headwind on one side and a tailwind on the other.
Don't pick up your bike until you strap your helmet. Don't draft. It will be easy to draft as more riders enter the course. Big brother is watching you! Don't block. Stay to the right except to pass. Fall back once you are passed as it is the passed riders responsibility to fall back.
- Run-The run is 5 km and starts at the transition area and follows along the outer perimeter of the island. There will be an aid station at the 3/4 and 2 1/4 mile marks. Be prepared for soft sand, hard clay, dry dirt, and/or sloppy mud. Run conditions will be strongly dependent on spring rains.
- More: The race will be held at Fiesta Island and an interactive Google map can be viewed here. If the link does not work for you, visit http://maps.google.com and type in "1750 Fiesta Island Road San Diego, CA".
You cannot enter the island with a car after 6:15AM. You cannot leave the island with a car until after the last rider has finished bicycling. If you arrive after 6:15 AM you must plan on parking and bicycling to the transition area with all your gear ~ 2 miles. Please let your friends and family know that they will have to walk ~2 miles to the transition area if they like to sleep.
- Directions: On the 5 heading south exit west on Clairemont Drive. This exit is weird; go around the curly and stay in the left hand lane so that you can make a left on Clairement Drive. At the stop sign, make a left and head south on East Mission Bay Drive. Continue until you pass the Hilton Hotel on the right.
