Course Info: This is a 2-mile trail run through Camp Partlow transitioning into a 17-mile road bike ride and ending with another 2-mile trail run in the opposite direction from the first.

    Course Info: 1.5K swim / 30K mountain bike / 10K trail run
  • The course is classic XTERRA, with roots and rocks on twisting and rolling trails, a mix of single track and double track, a fair amount of climbing, and all on a single-loop mountain bike course.
  • The main event features a 1.5k swim in the calm waters of Double Oak Lake, followed by a 30k mountain bike and 10k trail run.
  • It will award points to amateur and professionals, qualify age groupers for the Nissan Xterra USA and World Championships, and dish out $20,000 to elites.
    More: Race date is set for June 11, 2006, with the XTERRA Festival happening all weekend long.
  • There will also be a 5k/10k scramble, the Nissan Kids Base Camp, and the Buster Britton Memorial road triathlon on Saturday (and special recognition for those who do the "Alabama Slamma Double").
    Directions To Race: 'BAMA ON BOARD: The latest addition to the 2006 Nissan Xterra USA Championship Series will take competitors to Shelby County on the outskirts of Birmingham. Oak Mountain State Park, the largest state park in Alabama, boasts nearly 10,000 acres of outdoor recreational playground and promises to be a great place for competitors to bring the whole family with mountains, lakes, and forests for hiking, biking, and fishing, a well-developed golf course and a riding stable. There are hundreds of campsites and cabins for rent, and the park is just a half-hour south of the historic and bustling city of Birmingham.

  • 400m Open WaterSwim: Individual interval start (based on swim times) every 3-6 seconds from pier. The swim is horseshoe shape. Run out at a beach and up the right side of the bike racks.
  • 23k Bike: Ride out to Goosepond Colony entrance & turn right. Turn left on Hwy 79. Turn right on US 72. Exit 72 and turn right on Hwy 279. Turn left into Goosepond Colony.
  • 5k Run: Run is a "breathtaking" rolling asphalt trail to the Goosepond Convention Center and back. Some dirt trail running involved ( last 300 yards).
    Directions To Race:
  • From Chattanooga, TN: Take I-24 West to Exit 152 (US 72) at Kimball/South Pittsburg. Turn right on US-72 and go Southwest for approximately 36 miles. Exit 72 to 279 South to Goose Pond Colony approximately 4.4 miles. Turn left into Goose Pond Colony and proceed ~ 1.9 miles to the start.
  • From Huntsville, AL: Take US 72 East for ~ 36 miles. Bear right on the ramp for "AL-279 to Scottsboro/Guntersville". There's a sign for Goose Pond Colony on the ramp. Turn RIGHT (not left) on AL-279,S Broad St and go Southwest for 4.4 miles. Turn left into Goose Pond Colony and proceed ~ 1.9 miles to the start.
  • From Birmingham, AL: Take I-59 northeast for ~ 92 miles. Exit I-59 at exit 218 "AL-35 Fort Payne/Rainsville. Turn left on AL-35 and continue for ~ 26 miles to US 72. Turn left on to US-72 and continue for ~ 2 miles. Exit 72 to 279 South to Goose Pond Colony approximately 4.4 miles. Turn left into Goose Pond Colony and proceed ~ 1.9 miles to the start.

    Course Info: Flat water paddle at Comer Boy Scout Reservation, Then proceed on a 3.2 mile trail run that will carry you from the lake to the transition area. The run is easy to moderate. Once you reach tranistion mount your bike and your off for a 5.5 to 6 mile mtb bike trail that offers several challenging climbs as well as tight fast sections.
    Directions To Race:
  • From Birmingham; travel north on interstate 59 and take exit 218 in Fort Payne.
  • From Chattanooga: travel south on interstate 59 and take exit 222 in Fort Payne.
  • Once you exit the interstate follow the signs to Desoto State Park.
  • From Rome, Georgia: take highway 20 out of Rome into Alabama and 20 becomes highway 9. Turn right onto highway 35 and follow the sign to Fort Payne. Once your on Lookout Mtn follow the signs to Desoto State Park
