Course Info: This year, the town of Wiggins returns as the site of the final race in the Mile-High Duathlon series! Those who have competed here before will certainly remember the town's wonderful hospitality - as well as the great post-race breakfast!!! Wiggins was formerly the site for the Wiggins Duathlon, and gained quite a bit of notoriety when Duathlon King Kenny Sousa struck a cat during the bike race and crashed, breaking his collar bone. The cat, luckily, emerged unscathed! That was the last year for the original 5K run, 10 mile bike Wiggins Duathlon, but we revived it in 2000 with a new 5K run, 30K bike, 5K run format. The new course featured two flat 5K runs, separated by a 30K paved bike course that traversed the farmlands of rural Colorado. The new format was a hit! So bring your running shoes, your bike... and your appetite for the second annual Cabbage Head Duathlon and Breakfast!!!

Saturday, September 25, 2004 : Grand Junction, Colorado : 5th Annual SALOMON Kokopelli Adventure Day #1
One or 2 Day Adventure Race - (2 or 3 person teams)
Start Time: 8 am both days
    Phone: (303) 635-2815
    email: emgmh@emgcolorado.com
    Register On Line At: Active.com
    Printable Entry Form at: emgcolorado.com
Course Info: Courses are subject to change pending the final approval of the Grand Junction office of the BLM. Most of the courses will place competitors in areas that see very few people, which will certainly provide for a solitary race experience. The degree of difficulty in this event will not necessarily come from the distances covered, but from the terrain that will be encountered. Competitors must also plan for the weather at this time of the year. Be prepared for a starting temperature in the 40-50s, but it is not unusual to finish in the upper 70s to low 80s. Since this is a dry, desert climate, often times those temperatures feel hotter than they actually are and water is very important.
Host Hotel: The Grand Vista would like to extend an invitation to stay and relax in one of their great guestrooms. They are located off I-70 (exit 31). Turn north on Horizon Drive one block to 2790 Crossroads Blvd. Special rates include up to 4 persons/rooms). Reservations: (800) 800-7796 and remember to mention the Kokopelli Adventure.
More Info: The 5th Annual Kokopelli Adventure returns to its original format. The event is a different format than the standard adventure races in that it will be a 2-day (weekend) race run in two stages so that athletes will not be competing after dark. Also, teams may choose to participate in a single day event on Saturday or the combined 2-day stage. Since the event is run in two stages, participants will have the ability to "rest-up" for the second stage or if you've chosen the 1-day stage, it gives the Saturday participants a fun and challenging day of competition. Both days will have a common start and will include the following disciplines on one or both stages-trail running/trekking, canoeing, navigation and mountain biking. Distances will average 30-40 miles each day (difficulty comes from the terrain and not the total distances). Saturday will be the longer of the 2 days and will include the river section. Teams are required to provide support (no more than 2 persons/team-you may share with another team). Western Regional Qualifier USARA National Championship The Kokopelli Adventure is proud to be a sanctioned Western Regional Qualifier for the United States Adventure Racing Association National Championship. The TOP FOUR 3 person coed teams from the 2-DAY STAGE qualify for the National Championship. The winning team receives a $400 entry fee reduction to the championship.
