CHILDREN'S TRIATHLON HELPS FAMILIES IN WESTMORELAND COUNTY

Greensburg, PA:  Central Westmoreland Habitat for Humanity invites kids and families to join in their third annual Habitat Kids Triathlon on Saturday, August 14, 9 a.m. at Lynch Field in Greensburg.

The triathlon is an exciting swim, bike and run event designed for kids 7-12 years old, of all fitness levels.  7, 8 and 9- year olds will complete a 50-yard swim, 1-mile bike and .5-mile run.  10, 11 and 12 year olds will complete a 100-yard swim, 2-mile bike and 1-mile run.  "This event is great for the kids, and the parents have the opportunity to see what Habitat for Humanity is all about.  My children have participated and loved every minute of the competition." explained volunteer race director Angie Seyler.  Every finisher will be awarded a medal, and trophies for boys and girls at every age level will also be presented to the fastest competitors.

Approximately 100 kids and their families plus dozens of volunteers will be a part of the event on race day.  A race overview for parents and participants will take place Thursday, August 12 at 7 p.m. The overview will begin at the Ice Rink and will proceed to the pool and track for a review of the course.

"Not only is this a way to help kids become more active and learn healthy habits, it is a great way for kids to learn, from an early age, the value of helping other people help themselves, " said event chairperson State Senator and Psychologist Tim Murphy.  "Habitat for Humanity serves a vital role by providing no-interest housing loans to working families in need - right here in our community."  In the last two Triathlons nearly $10,000 has been raised for Habitat for Humanity.

Corporate sponsors of this event include WTAE TV, Fannie Mae, Howard Hanna, UPMC, Westmoreland Hospital, the Tribune Review, the Laurel Group and the Norwin Star.  Toys R Us will also be sending Geoffrey the Giraffe to visit us at the Triathlon. All proceeds from the event go directly to Central Westmoreland Habitat for Humanity housing projects.

Our closing ceremony will include trophy and medal presentations, snacks, door prizes, and great give a ways! Come join in on the fun.

Pre-Registration is strongly encouraged.  For registration information, contact Central Westmoreland Habitat for Humanity at 724.523.0308 or email:
