Course Info: This race was the 2005 USAT National Championship Long Course Triathlon.
  • Swim: DeGray Lake: rated as one of the top 10 cleanest fresh water lakes in America by the Army Corp of Engineers. You can actually drink it, and some do during the swim. The Swim is a clock wise, with a deep water start. The Entry and Finish area is on a large concrete boat ramp. Be careful when you stand up at the end of the swim. USAT rules will apply.
  • Bike:. Well, here's the honest truth, is it's not a totally flat course! The Bike Course is a deceptively fast out and back course with several short steep climbs and a 5 mile gradual climb to the top of Iron Mountain from both directions. The first and last 20 miles contain several climbs and fast descents. From mile 20 - 35 it's fast and flat. For the most part if there is any wind you will be shielded from it by the trees. Most of the bike course travels through uninhabited timber land in the foot hills of the Ouachita (Wash-she-ta) Mountains If you take a few seconds along the way you will see some absolutely beautiful vistas. • Aid Stations are at the following locations: 8 miles, 14 miles, 23 miles, 33miles, 42 miles and 47 miles.
  • Run: The course is two loops of a tree lined route. Between 11pm and 2pm there will be very little shade. • Aid Stations will be approximately every mile. They will be stocked with ice, water, sports drink, energy gel, a salty food, bananas and oranges.
Directions To Race: From I-30 take exit 78 (Hwy 7 north) Go approx 2.5 miles turn left onto Skyline Drive. Spillway area is 1mile on your right.

  • The Swim: The 1.2-mile swim is held in warm, crystal clear Lake Dunmore. The swim will be a two loop course which is GPS measured and lined with buoys. There will be wave starts of no more than 100 participants per wave. The swim is extremely safe as you are rarely in over 6 feet of water at any given point. There will be lifeguards in kayaks and boats at various locations monitoring the course at all times.
  • The Bike: The 56-mile bike is a beautiful "lolipop" course, which we like to describe as "rolling." The route is extremely spectator friendly, open to traffic & will be monitored closely by course marshals. The elevation of the course ranges from 300 ft to 650 ft The course has lots of new pavement & will be staffed w/ aid stations giving water bottles to all participants as requested. A bike mechanic will be roaming the course to provide aid as needed. Absolutely no drafting.
  • The Run: The 13.1-mile run is a GPS measured out and back course. This out and back portion of the run should provide for excellent spectator support. Aid stations will be found at approximately every mile and will be loaded with water, sports drinks, energy bars, gels, fruit, and more. Course marshals will be roaming the route and will provide assistance as needed. This is a very shaded course with several miles being on a dirt road.
More: Vermont Sun Sports & Fitness Center has been putting on triathlons and road races since 1985. We take great pride in producing races that are professionally organized, safe, fun, fair and affordable.
