  • Swim: (Triathletes Only) Swimmers will complete a 1.2 mile triangular shaped swim route in the Aurora Reservoir, starting and finishing on the sandy beach to the left of the pavilion. The start will be in waves which will be posted at packet pick-up locations and on our website 1 week before the event. Water temperature in the reservoir in early September is typically in the sixties, so wetsuits will are encouraged.
  • 5k Run: (Duathletes Only) The Harvest Moon Duathlon is a 5K (3.1 mile) run, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run event. Duathletes will all begin in the same wave after all of the swimmers in the Tri have entered the water. Following the gently rolling opening run, racers will then follow the same bike and second run courses as the triathletes. There are no aid stations on the first 5K run. The course is completely closed to traffic.
  • Bike: The 56 mile bike course will cover a mix of hilly terrain and long flats through the farm & ranch country of eastern Colorado. The start and finish will be the hilliest part of the course. Riders will complete a 46 mile loop, with a 5-mile out-and-back spur located in the first half of the course. The route will follow paved rural country roads as well as a 9-mile stretch of I-70. Drafting is not permitted on any portion of the bike course, and weenies who do will be penalized!!! Bike Aid Stations: There will be 3 water bottle hand-ups on the bike course stocked with water and Gatorade. Please discard all empty bottles at these zones only. Approximately 15 miles: On the map, this is on Quincy, shortly before the turn onto Watkins Road. Approximately 33 miles: On the map, this is on Hwy 36 in Bennett, shortly after you make the the turn from Hwy. 79. Approximately 44 miles: On the map, this is on Watkins Road, a couple of miles after you cross I-70.
  • Run: The 13.1 mile run course is a winding route on the asphalt bike path around Aurora Reservoir - THE RUN COURSE IS NOT on concrete.. The run will be an out and back format, with aid stations at each mile. The terrain is flat to gently rolling, and the course is completely closed to motor vehicles. The run leaves the back corner of the upper parking lot and travels counter clockwise around the lake to a turn-around point on the dam, then returns via the same route to finish near the pavilion at Aurora Reservoir swim beach. Aid Stations will be located at each mile of the run. Water will be available at all aid stations. Gatorade will be available at miles 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, and 11. Food will be available at miles 1, 3, 5, 8, 10, and 12. Ice will also be available on the course!!!
Directions To Race: The race site is the Aurora Reservoir, located a short drive from Denver. Spectators will be charged a $4.00 per vehicle entrance fee to the park. This fee will be waived for athletes on race day. The most direct route is to take I-70 east from the Denver, & exit onto I-225. Exit I-225 at 6th Ave. & turn left (east). 6th Ave. eventually becomes Gun Club Rd. Stay on this road as it continues past Buckley AFB. A short time later you will see signs for Quincy Ave & the Aurora Reservoir. Turn left on Quincy & right into the reservoir.

Course Info: The event will take place at the Larry and Penny Thompson Park. The park has a crystal clear lake, and a HUGE beach area for easy entry and exit. The roads surrounding the park have almost no traffic, so the bike course will be flat, fast, and peaceful. We are saving the best for last though, as we are in the run will go through Metro Zoo! Larry and Penny Thompson Park is seperated from Metro Zoo by only a moat and a fence, and there is a gate for us to go through.
