Race Date/location:
Duathlon is Saturday, June 07, 2008 at the Charleston Baptist Association
Campgrounds in Benton, Missouri (4855 Hwy 77).
Race Time:
Race starts at 9am sharp (mass start). Youth will begin 1 minute after the
start of the adult race. It is your responsibility to be at the start line on
time. A 10 minute, 5 minute, 2 minute, and 1 minute warning will be made prior
to the start of the race.
Race Distance: 3 mile run; 14 mile bike; 3 mile run. Youth: 1.5 mile run; 7 mile
bike; 1.5 mile run.
Registration: Registration may be completed by mailing
registration form
and
payment to: Splitmaster 3579 State HWY H Sikeston, MO 63801. Max
capacity is 250. All registration will end when capacity is met.
Fees:
$30 if post marked on or before 5-15-08
$40 if post marked after 5-15-08
$10 discount to Military men/women with ID
$10 additional fee for non-USAT members
Packet Pick-up:
At race site, Friday June 6th 4pm-8pm
At race site, June 7 (race morning) 6:30am-8am.
All participants must pick-up his/her own race packet and show valid ID
Directions to
Cyclewerx: From the St. Louis
area, take I-55 south to exit 99 (Cape Girardeau/Jackson). From this exit, turn
left onto I-55 loop S/US 61 S/ MO 34E/ N. Kingshighway. Travel 2.7 miles,
Cyclewerx (1404 N. Kingshighway) is on the right, just past Car Mart.
Directions to Race
Site: From the St. Louis area,
take I-55 south to exit 80 (Benton/Diehlstadt). From exit 80, turn left/east
onto MO-77. Travel 2.9 miles, Charleston Baptist Association Campgrounds (4855
Hwy 77) is on the right.
Race site amenities:
The campgrounds provide a large pavilion with seating and many shade trees.
Basketball and sand volleyball courts are also located on the grounds. Men and
Women’s bath houses with restroom facilities, showers and changing rooms are
also available.
Race Day Parking: Parking will be available at the Unity Baptist Church, just across
the road from the campgrounds, as well as a designated portion of the
campgrounds. Please park as directed by parking attendant to ensure that your
vehicle does not block the run course. The campgrounds will be closed for
parking from 8:50 am until the race is complete. At this time no vehicles will
be permitted to enter or exit this parking lot. If you intend to leave before
all participants have completed the duathlon, please use the church parking lot.

Race categories: (Each individual category is divided by gender) 7-10; 11-14; 15-18;
19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50+; Youth team (all members 18 or under); Adult team
Team Participants:
Each team will have one race-packet. If pre registered, each team member
will receive an event t-shirt which will be included in the race-packet. One
representative (team captain) from each team must retrieve race-packet and
timing chip at a designated packet-pick-up location. The team captain is
responsible for the return of the timing chip or the replacement fee ($160 USD). The team’s first runner will start the race with the timing chip securely
fastened around his/her left ankle. The chip will remain fastened on the 1st
runner until it is passed to the team cyclist in the transition area. The
cyclist must have the chip band securely fastened on his/her left ankle before
leaving the transition area for the start of the bike. The cyclist must enter
the transition area at the conclusion of the bike portion with the chip band
still secured around his/her left ankle. The chip band will be transferred to
the left ankle of the 2nd runner in the transition area. The second
runner must not exit the transition area until the chip band is properly secured
around his/her left ankle. The second runner will return the chip band to the
designated bucket once he/she crosses the finish line. Once the first runner
and/or cyclist have completed their leg of the race and have passed on the
timing chip, they are to exit the transition area immediately and are not to
return to the transition area until all race participants have completed the
bike portion of the race.
Run Course:
The entire run course takes place on the campgrounds and is well marked. The
majority of the course is on the flat, neatly mowed yard of the campgrounds. A
portion of the run course is a walking/jogging trail through a field of
preserved/endangered prairie wheat. This trail is primarily tightly packed
dirt/sand. Athletes will run 2 loops of this 1.5 mile loop course.
Bike Course:
The bike course takes place on open roads. All roads are well paved. The roads
will not be closed to traffic. It is your responsibility to obey all rules of
the road. All cyclists must stay on the right hand side of the road at all
times!! Helmets are mandatory and must be properly fastened before mounting your
bike. The bike course is absolutely flat.
Adult bike course:
The bike course begins with a right hand turn out of the campgrounds onto Hwy
77. From Hwy 77 you will make your second right turn onto County Road 506.
Your third right turn will be onto State HWY H. You will travel north on Hwy H
to your forth right hand turn onto Hwy 77. From Hwy 77 you will ride back to
the campgrounds. The course is one big triangle.
Transition Area:
Bike racks will be labeled with a range of bib numbers. On the rack with your
assigned bib number, specific spots are first come, first serve. Bikes must be
staggered. Transition area will open at 6am on race-day and will close at
8:50am for the start of the race. Once you have finished the duathlon, we ask
that you do not re-enter the transition area until all participants have begun
the second run. Race participants only will be allowed into the transition area
While in the transition
area, you are expected to respect all other’s belongings/equipment.
Chip timing:
This event will be using a chip timing system. You will receive your timing
chip at packet pick-up. It is your responsibility to properly wear your chip
snuggly around your left ankle through the duration of the event and to return
the chip and its neoprene band to the designated bucket(s) once you have crossed
the finish line. You are responsible for the replacement cost of the chip
should your chip not be returned. The replacement cost of the chip is $160.00
USD. We suggest that once you receive your chip at packet pick-up you put it on
your ankle immediately. The chip is water-proof, safe to swim or bathe with.
It is important that you wear the chip that was assigned to you! Do not trade
chips with other race participants. Once you are at the race site, please avoid
crossing the black/grey timing mats before the start of the race.

Awards:
Awards will be presented at the awards ceremony directly following the
duathlon. Awards will be presented to the overall male/female, top 3 in each
individual category, and to each member of the top team in each team category.
Other awards may also be presented. SplitMaster or other race staff is not
responsible for the mailing/delivery or storage of awards not retrieved at the
awards ceremony.
Awards include a $500.00 cash prize purse.
Event T-shirts:
Each pre registered participant will receive an event t-shirt in
his/her race packet. Additional event t-shirts may be purchased for $15 ($17
for sizes 2xl-3xl) each. The additional t-shirts must be ordered from SplitMaster by March 9, 2007. Any extra t-shirts will be available for purchase
at packet pick-up.
The Adam McGee Memorial
Scholarship:
Proceeds from
Duathlon on the Grounds benefit the Adam McGee Memorial Scholarship fund.
Adam’s classmates will graduate High School in 2008. At that ceremony, we would
like to pay tribute to Adam by awarding the scholarship to a deserving High
School graduate. The scholarship will then be awarded annually. For more
